Thurstonland Cricket Club

Join Us

Thurstonland CC is a cricket club at the heart of the village community. With senior sides for both men and women, and junior cricket for boys and girls aged 5 and up, there are opportunities for anyone who wants to get involved to play.

Playing not for you? We’d still love to welcome you to enjoy watching some local cricket and to take advantage of the bar facilities. Our fixture list is available at https://thurstonlandcc.com/fixtures/ and typically we are open Saturdays from 1pm and Sundays from 2pm during the playing season.

Senior Cricket

We run three senior sides, a 1st and 2nd XI and our women’s team the Thurstonland Thundercats.

Our 1st XI plays in the Huddersfield Cricket League Conference division, and in 2022 were awarded the David Boulton Award for most sporting team. The 2nd XI plays in the Huddersfield Cricket League Conference 3 division. Both the 1st and 2nd XI train on Thursday evenings from 6pm. If you are interested in joining the club, please do come along to a training session or drop a message to Lee Booth – 0754 4885474 – boothby105@gmail.com.

Our women’s team, the Thurstonland Thundercats, play softball cricket in the West Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket League (Huddersfield group). In 2023, we will be taking our first steps into hardball cricket with a full fixture card of hardball cricket friendlies against clubs across West Yorkshire. The Women’s team trains on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm. If you are interested in joining the club, please do come along to a training session or drop a message to Sara Begg +44 7545 672 077.

Junior Cricket

We run 6 junior sides from Under 9 to Under 17 in the Huddersfield Junior Cricket League. All our junior sides are open to boys and girls apart from our all-girls U13 team. We have a policy of player rotation to ensure all children who are eligible to play in each age group can represent the club in competitive matches.

Training times and information about our training sessions:

Fridays:

  • 5:30 – 7:00 Under 9s (R-Y4, children in Reception and Year 1 may prefer to finish at 6:30)
  • 6:00 – 7:30 Under 11s and Under 13s (Y5-Y8)

Thursdays:

  • 5:30 – 7:00 Under 15s (Y9&Y10)

Tuesdays:

  • 5:30 – 6:30 Under 13 girls (Y2-Y8)

Our lively Friday nights training sessions provide coaching for children in Reception up to year 8 (boys) and year 9 (girls). Overseen by two ECB Level 3 Coaches, we are in a unique position in the local area, allowing us to provide quality coaching while retaining a focus on fun and enjoyment. With the bar open and plenty of outdoor and indoor seating this is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the community club atmosphere.

Our U15 squads (Year 9 – 10) train on a Thursday evening prior to senior training, while our U17 squad trains with the senior sides, to promote smooth transition into senior sides. The success of this approach is reflected in the number of older boys and girls who play on a regular basis in all three senior sides.

We offer additional training for girls aged U13 and below in our “intro to cricket” sessions. These sessions are open to women and girls of all ages but particularly target mums and daughters who are looking to try cricket for the first time and develop the basic skills so they have the confidence to join in mixed junior training and/or women’s senior training.
